Penn State Writer Cory Giger Weighs In On NCAA Sanctions, Player Reaction
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Sports Writer for the Altoona Mirror Cory Giger joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN in Pittsburgh to give his thoughts on the Penn State scandal and the punishments handed down today.
Giger said the NCAA set out to make an example of Penn State for the culture they created, and that's exactly what they accomplished. According to Cory, things like this could happen on other campuses because of the culture created around football programs and the hero-worship that takes place, and that's the number one thing that needs to change.
We also discussed the university not challenging the sanctions handed down based on the Freeh report, and their reasoning for not contesting any of them.
Cory also talked with us about what actions need to be taken towards Governor Tom Corbett who was the Attorney General, what he could have known, and what incentive he would have had to delay the investigation until the vote for Governor was completed.
We wrapped things up with Cory asking him what the reaction was from the Penn State players as they came out of their team meeting earlier today, and the likelihood of a mass exodus among the players still on the team.
