Penn State Trustees Greeted By Protesters At Meeting
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (KDKA) -- About 200 chanting protestors greeted members of the Penn State Board of Trustees Friday when they showed up for a meeting in State College, Pa.
They're upset with the way the trustees handled the sex abuse scandal, especially the way long-time head coach, the late Joe Paterno was fired after the story broke that 69-year-old Jerry Sandusky, an assistant coach, had allegedly been sexually abusing underage boys, some even on campus.
Among the loudest critics of the board was former Steelers great Franco Harris, who was in State College for Friday's gathering.
Harris told the crowd of demonstrators that it would be in the best interest of PSU if all the trustees who were on the board when Paterno was fired, themselves step down.
Three top Penn State officials, including former President Graham Spanier, have yet to go on trial on cover-up charges stemming from the scandal.
Sandusky is serving a 30 to 60 year prison sentence after his conviction in the abuse of 10 boys.
