Penn State QB Hackenberg Committed To Team Despite Coaching Change
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With the departure of Bill O'Brien from Penn State, many feared that could also lead to the departure of star freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg.
For the first time since the hiring of James Franklin, Hackenberg spoke out and said he's not going anywhere.
According to Audrey Snyder of Penn Live, Hackenberg said Franklin "didn't have to sell me on anything" and that the first meeting the two recently had went well.
Hackenberg was already somewhat familiar with Franklin when the former head coach at Vanderbilt tried recruiting him to play for the Commodores, but says their meeting allowed him to get to know his new head coach on a more personal level.
As for what the future holds, Hackenberg says he's just waiting to find out who his position coach is, get his playbook and start getting ready for next season.
In the meantime, Hackenberg and his teammates are going through their off-season strength and conditioning program.
You can hear more on the changes at Penn State in Cook and Poni's interview with Steelers and Penn State legend Jack Ham. Ham says he believes Franklin is a very good fit for Penn State and that with the worst of the sanctions behind them, things should start trending up in Happy Valley.
