Penn State Beaver Officials: Campus Secure, Classes To Resume Monday
MONACA (KDKA) -- After a two-day shutdown at Penn State Beaver, school officials say the campus has been reopened and classes are set to resume on Monday.
Meanwhile, the investigation into a possible threat posted to Twitter late last week that allegedly referenced the Virginia Tech shootings continues.
According to a press release set out Sunday, students, staff and faculty have been notified by officials that the campus is secure and classes will resume on Monday at 8 a.m.
Penn State Beaver Campus Chancellor Gary Keefer said in a statement: "We have great confidence in the State Police who are conducting a very aggressive investigation. In addition to our regular safety measures, such as key card access to our residence hall, surveillance cameras, and regular police patrols on campus, we have a number of precautions in place, including a heavier police presence, to keep the campus secure. At all times, the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is paramount, so we ask that everyone remain alert and cautious."
The investigation prompted authorities to cancel classes on Friday and students were told to stay in their dorms as investigators searched for the man accused in the incident, Michael Mollett, a former student and basketball player.
In addition to no classes on Friday, a number of weekend activities were canceled as well, including PSU Day – a campus celebration and open house.
