Remains Found In Penn Hills Identified As Man Missing Since 2017

PENN HILLS (KDKA) – Human remains found in Penn Hills earlier this month have been identified as those of a man reported missing more than a year ago.
According to police, the remains were found in a wooded area along Milltown Road on April 11. The remains were discovered by a person on a nature walk.
On Tuesday, police announced the remains have been identified as those of 19-year-old Zackery Sheets.
Sheets was reported as missing on March 8, 2017. He was last seen live on Feb. 19, 2017, in Penn Hills.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner was able to make a positive identification using dental records.
Zackery's family is heartbroken by the news. Matthew, Zackery's brother, consoled their father, Jeffrey, as they spoke to KDKA's Brenda Waters.
"It wasn't anything that we were hoping or looking for, it's something in the back of your mind, you just wish wasn't the truth," said Matthew.
But Zackery's father says the circumstances surrounding what exactly happened to his son and how he died are both still mysteries.
"Really weird how it all went down. He was living with his girlfriend and another woman. He went to the store at 10 that night, and the next day, they called and said Zak was missing."
According to Zackery's father, his son left with friends and did not take his cell phone, and those friends are now in jail on unrelated charges.
The circumstances surrounding Sheets' disappearance are still under investigation.
