PENN HILLS (KDKA) – Two people are in custody following a police chase in Penn Hills Wednesday morning.
According to police, the chase started along Route 22 in Monroeville. Two people were inside the vehicle, which led police on a high-speed chase to Penn Hills.
The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office says a tip lead them to the suspect's silver Acura sitting in traffic Wednesday morning on Route 22. Sheriff's deputies tried to approach the car and that's when it took off, hitting the vehicle in front of it, climbing the median and then heading westbound against traffic.
The car nearly hit several of the deputies as it fled.
The vehicle chase went on for nearly 30 minutes.
The man then got out of the vehicle, ran down a hill and tried to break into a home in the Pinewood Square apartment complex.
"The vehicle continued to flee and ended up on the top street in this apartment complex. He had bailed out of the car, he had a firearm in his possession and they chased him into the rear of this house where he tried to break in," Allegheny County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus said.
The man arrested has been identified as 36-year-old Tohn Robinson of Penn Hills. He's been wanted since late December and is facing felony charges for delivery of fentanyl as well as weapons violations. A federal warrant was also issued for his arrest earlier this month.
The Sheriff's Office says he is a "known drug dealer."
Monique Matthews, 22, of Homewood, was also arrested. She was also in the car and taken into custody shortly after Robinson ditched the car during the chase.
She was taken to the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office for questioning.
After arresting Robinson, sheriff's deputies found a bag of suspected crack cocaine inside Robinson's pants pocket. A police K-9 found a loaded gun along the pursuit trail, and deputies recovered a bag containing nine bricks of alleged heroin-filled stamp bags hidden inside a grill behind one of the apartments.
Robinson was taken to the Allegheny County Jail where he's being held on those warrants. He will also now face charges in connection with the chase.
