Penn Hills Fire Destroys 1 Home, Damages 1 Other
PENN HILLS (KDKA) - A Penn Hills home is now just a shell after fire tore through it overnight.
Neighbors in the 5100 block of White Oak Drive said they woke up to a night sky that was lit up.
"That's what woke me up. Some things were falling and I thought someone was breaking into my house and that's what made me look out the window. Really weird because I came out and everyone was asleep and you just see a fire that large,"
Alex Rodkey said.
Rodkey immediately called 911 and said police and firefighters responded quickly.
After they found out the homeowner wasn't inside, officers went next door.
They evacuated the family with two small children because they were worried the fire would spread.
"Just a lot of fire. A lot of involvement and a lot of collapse with a lot of hidden hot spots we just had to keep soaking down," Penn Hills Fire Chief Dave Sanford said.
Crews were able to get things under control, but he house is a total loss.
The homeowner travels a lot for work and at this point has no idea that his house and everything in it is gone.
No one was injured.
The next door neighbors have some heat damage on the outside, but were allowed back into their home later in the morning.
The Penn Hills Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
