Penguins Work On Power Play Before Heading To Tampa
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Penguins went through a full workout Sunday before they boarded their charter bounded for Tampa Bay.
It's there on Monday night that they will take on the Lightning in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series.
The Penguins spent much of their practice Sunday afternoon working on the power play, which has gone scoreless in 13 chances thus far in the series. Mario Lemieux watched from the stands at the CONSOL Energy Center.
Head coach Dan Bylsma knows that they need to improve if they hope to steal a game on the road.
"In terms of the power play, we need to do a better job of our execution on our entries and the decisions that we make… execution when we enter the zone," said Bylsma.
"I think it starts just with the break in," said Pens' forward James Neal. "When we go all five back or depending on what break out we do, we need to execute that.
As bad as things looked during Friday night's Game 2 loss, the Pens can take solace in the fact that they've been here before. In fact, most on the roster have been in worse situations, and gone on to win a series.
"We didn't win a Stanley Cup after Game 1, and we certainly didn't lose one after Game 2," said Pens' forward Mike Rupp. "We want to be better and we want to have a good Game 3. It's a pivotal game of the series."
"Coming into it, I think everyone expected a long series and we've been in a lot worse positions, down 0-2 a couple of times," added Pens defenseman Brooks Orpik. "So, it's the group that knows how to keep their composure."
