Penguins Win 11th Straight Game
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- The Penguins appear to be unstoppable, earning their 11th consecutive win by beating the Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-2.
Sidney Crosby, on a hot streak of his own, snagged two goals Wednesday night at the CONSOL Energy Center. He now has 20 goals and 15 assists during a 17-game point streak.
Crosby was the first to put one in the net with a backhander at 8:35 in the first period. Chris Kunitz and Matt Cooke assisted on the goal to make it 1-0.
In the second period, Pascal Dupuis had a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0 at 11:38. Mark Letestu made it 3-0 about a minute and a half later. Crosby then got his second goal of the night at 14:46 to give the Pens a 4-0 lead.
The Maple Leafs got on the board when Tyler Bozak scored during the power play at 4:36 of the third. Then, Mikhail Grabvoski got one past Marc-Andre Fleury about four minutes later.
Letestu made it 5-2 by getting a wrist shot behind Jonas Gustavsson with less than three minutes left in the game.
The Penguins, 13-0-1 since last losing in regulation on Nov. 10, are on the second-longest winning streak in franchise history.
Their only longer run was their NHL-record 17-game streak during a 119-point season in 1993.
