Penguins Sign Steve Downie To 1-Year Deal
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins continued to add pieces to the team via free agency on Wednesday.
According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Penguins signed forward Steve Downie to a one-year deal worth $1 million.
Downie has spent time with the Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche during his seven years in the NHL.
The 5-feet-11-inch, 191 pound Downie figures to be another addition to the bottom six forward corps, which was in major need of improvement.
Last year, Downie was traded to the Flyers for Max Talbot in the first month of the season. He finished the season with a total of four goals and 20 assists.
For his career, Downie has 59 goals, 103 assists and 766 penalty minutes in 336 career games.
On Tuesday, the Penguins added:
- Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff - one-year, $4 million
- Goaltender Thomas Greiss – one-year, $1 million
- Forward Blake Comeau – one-year, $700,000
- Defenseman Taylor Chorney -one-year, $550,000 (two-way deal)
The Penguins also re-signed:
- Center Marcel Goc – one-year, $1.2 million
- Forward Nick Drazenovic – one-year, $550,000 (two-way deal)
