Penguins Show Appreciation For Veterans
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins will show appreciation to local veterans again this year in honor of Veterans Day.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will host 12 wounded veterans – representing the Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Troop Appreciation and the Veterans' Administration – during the morning skate.
Before the morning skate each veteran will receive an individualized Penguins jersey from a Penguins player. They will be able to watch the Penguins practice from Suite 66, the Penguins said.
Vets will have an opportunity to take pictures with players after the morning skate.
In a press release, the Penguins said that during the pre-game warm-up Friday night, players will wear camouflage jerseys to honor vets and the current military service members.
After the skate, the players will sign the jerseys, which will be auctioned off on www.nhl.com. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and Operation Troop Appreciation.
Veterans will participate in Zamboni rides before the game and during intermissions. They will also receive a 20 percent discount at the PensGear store on both Friday and Saturday.
At tonight's game against Dallas fans will get an American Flag Foundation wristband, presented by PNC.
ROTC members will also be present, collecting for the "Support Our Heroes" program at each entry.
