Penguins' Rival Goalie Henrik Lundqvist Out With Injury
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan/AP) - The New York Rangers say star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will be out for at least three weeks after being hit in the throat by a shot.
The Rangers said Friday that Lundqvist sustained a vascular injury in a game last weekend.
The Rangers say they are talking to top medical experts about his recovery. Lundqvist was hurt Saturday Jan. 31 when he was struck by a shot from Carolina's Brad Malone.
The Penguins went 1-3 vs The Rangers this season with Lundqvist recording a shutout back on Nov. 11. New York is currently 4 points behind the Pens in the Metropolitian standings as of Feb. 7.
In a statement, the Rangers say "Henrik will remain sidelined at least three weeks, until he is re-evaluated and we have completed the process of conferring with the medical experts."
The New York Times is reporting "King Henrik" could miss up to 12 games. Lundqvist has been red hot going 16-4-0 with a 1.82 goals-against average in his last 20 contests.
