Penguins Recall Defenseman Joe Morrow
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Joe Morrow and he is expected to make his NHL debut tonight against New Jersey.
According to a statement from the Penguins, Morrow was recalled Sunday morning from their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
In order to make room for him on the roster, the Penguins have placed defenseman Kris Letang on injured reserve. Letang has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury.
Head coach Dan Bylsma said Morrow was called up for insurance because of some injuries on the blue line.
Morrow is a highly-regarded defensive prospect in the Penguins' system. In 39 games, with the Baby Pens, Morrow has two goals and eight assists with a minus-4 rating.
Last season, Morrow racked up 17 goals and 47 assists for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.
