Penguins Make Trade, Acquire Top 6 Winger
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - In need of help on their top two forward lines, the Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the acquisition of left winger David Perron in a trade that sends the team's 2015 first-round draft pick and forward Rob Klinkhammer to the Edmonton Oilers.
The 26-year-old Perron is coming off a career-high in goals last year with 28 while racking up 57 points in 78 games.
This season, Perron has five goals and 14 assists in 38 games.
Perron was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (26th overall) of the 2007 draft and spent the first six years of his career playing for the Blues before being traded to the Oilers in exchange for Magnus Paajarvi and a 2014 second-round pick.
Perron is in the third year of a four-year, $15.25 million contract with a cap hit of just $3.8 million this year, giving the Penguins one more year of control over the winger before he becomes an unrestricted free agent following the 2015-16 season.
Perron will not be available for the Penguins Friday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning but is expected to make his debut Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens.
