Penguins Figure To Be Well-Represented In Sochi
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins figure to be well-represented at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Dan Bylsma was named as the head coach for Team USA, while Ray Shero will serve as assistant general manager.
Now, there will be some familiar faces on the coaching staff as well.
According to the Penguins' official website, assistant coach Tony Granato will be one of three assistant coaches on Bylsma's staff.
Philadelphia Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette and Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards are the other two assistant coaches. Richards is a former head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Penguins video coordinator Andy Saucier will also serve Team USA's staff in the same capacity.
On Monday, Olympic orientation camp rosters were announced for several countries and many players on the Penguins' roster received invitations.
USA Hockey has invited Paul Martin, Brooks Orpik and Beau Bennett.
Pittsburgh-area natives, Brandon Saad and John Gibson also received invites.
Team Canada has invited Sidney Crosby, James Neal, Chris Kunitz and Kris Letang.
The Russian Hockey Federation has also invited Evgeni Malkin.
The Winter Games will be held from Feb. 7-23, 2014.
