The Penguins chased Jaroslav Halak from the net in a 6-3 win over the Canadiens in Game 1 of the second round.
Montreal's penalty-killing unit, the same one that limited Washington to 1 goal on 33 chances in the first round, failed them as the Pens were a perfect 4-for-4 with the man advantage. Three of Pittsburgh's power-play goals were scored by defensemen, with markers by Sergei Gonchar, Kris Letang, and Alex Goligoski. Jordan Staal had the other power-play goal. Craig Adams scored his second of this post-season and Billy Guerin iced the game with an empty-netter.
Jaroslav Halak, who stopped 131 of the final 134 shots he faced against the Capitals, was pulled after allowing 5 goals on 20 shots.
Midway through the 2nd period, the Pens lost Jordan Staal after a collision with Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban. Staal appeared to injure his right leg, however, he left the ice under his own power. The Penguins have not commented on the severity of the injury.
Game 2 is Sunday at 2PM.
