Penguins Announce Events For 'Stadium Series' Week
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Penguins have planned a full week of free public events leading up to their game at Heinz Field.
The turf is quickly transforming into a frozen arena in preparation for the NHL Stadium Series game and now it's time to get the fans ready for the outdoor battle.
"We have a really fun week plan. We're trying to make it so we can bring in as much of the community as possible," Terry Kalna, of the Pittsburgh Penguins, said.
The Stadium Series game against the Philadelphia Flyers is Saturday, Feb. 25, but the fun begins Monday with three public skating sessions at PPG Paints Arena.
"Anytime you get to see somebody's face when they get to step on the actual ice at PPG Paints Arena, where the Penguins play, it's a really special experience," Kalna said.
However, you must bring your own skates and pre-register.
Tuesday is the big party at Rivers Casino. The Pens will be away, but that doesn't mean the celebration can't continue at home.
"We play that night in Raleigh against the Carolina Hurricanes so another good opportunity for fans to get involved in the excitement from the week. We'll have a lot of cool prizes there, maybe even give away a few tickets to the Stadium Series game," Kalna said.
On Wednesday, admission is free at the Heinz History Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Penguins night. There will be special pieces added to the exhibit celebrating the Pens' 50th anniversary.
"See a number of other really cool pieces of our history, our jersey collection, a game used jersey from every single era of Penguins hockey," Kalna said.
Fans will also want to come down to the rink at PPG Place on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. The 53-foot NHL Museum truck will make its Pittsburgh debut. And, the Stanley Cup will also be here.
"For the National Hockey League, this is their 100th season. So, as a part of those festivities, they've built out this really neat exhibit and display. It's gone all over North America," Kalna said.
