SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police say 20-year-old Giovanni DeMarzo didn't get far on his motorcycle after he hit a pedestrian and tried to leave the scene of an accident at Carson and 12th streets on the South Side late Saturday.
It happened around 11:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of E. Carson Street.
Witnesses say DeMarzo hit a pedestrian and lost control of his motorcycle when he slammed into a curb. He was thrown from the bike along with a female passenger, who was not wearing a helmet.
"Him and his passenger went on the ground, and his passenger was just laying there on the ground," witness Justin Bonno said. "[The driver] got back up. He was wearing a helmet."
DeMarzo reportedly got up and ran to his bike after it slid down the street and restarted it, hoping to get away. But an undercover police officer kicked the bike over and DeMarzo was arrested.
He is facing DUI and other charges.
His female passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The male pedestrian is listed in stable condition.
