Paterno's Necktie Sells For $10,200
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - Penn State's Joe Paterno tied the knot for $10,200.
Last week at a charity event, Paterno auctioned off the necktie he wore the night he won his 400th career game. The money raised from the auction is for Penn State Public Broadcasting.
The necktie has claimed the top spot for the most expensive piece of Paterno paraphernalia. In a previous auction, a pair of the coach's thick-rimmed smoky eyeglasses went for $9,000.
Paterno won his 400th game on Nov. 6, at home against Northwestern. In the game, the Nittany Lions rallied from three touchdowns down to beat the Wildcats 35-21.
Paterno finished the season with one more win to give him a total of 401 in his 45-year career.
His team lost to the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl 37-24 on New Year's Day.
Following the season, there were rumors that Paterno might step down as head coach because of health reasons. Paterno has denied those rumors and plans to be on the Penn State sideline for his 46th season.
