Paterno On Retirement: 'I Haven't Even Thought Of It'
TAMPA, Fla. (KDKA/AP) - A few days after Internet rumors surfaced that Penn State coach Joe Paterno was going to retire after the Outback Bowl, JoePa has addressed those allegations.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Paterno said, "I haven't even thought of it, I honest to goodness have not thought of it."
CollegeFootballTalk.com was citing unnamed sources around Penn State's athletic department that "wheels have been set in motion" for Paterno's retirement. The sources cited health concerns as the main reason for Paterno's retirement.
Those rumors were addressed by some of JoePa's players and his wife earlier in the week. His wife, Sue, said the rumors are "just lies" and her husband's health "is fine."
Paterno has been coaching the Nittany Lions for 45 seasons and has the all-time record for wins as a coach with 401.
Paterno was at a news conference with Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer, who is retiring after the bowl game, due to health concerns.
