Paterno Holds Practice On His 84th Birthday
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Joe Paterno celebrated his 84th birthday the only way he knows how, at a two-a-day practice with his football team.
The Nittany Lions are currently in Clearwater, Fla. They are practicing at the Philadelphia Phillies' spring training facility as they prepare for the Outback Bowl. They will play the Florida Gators in what will be coach Urban Meyer's final game after announcing his resignation earlier this month.
Paterno and the Nittany Lions will move from Clearwater to Tampa Bay next week and practice at Raymond James Stadium for the New Year's Day bowl game.
Paterno celebrated his birthday during the team dinner with a cake on Tuesday night.
Major college football's winningest coach is wrapping up his record 45th season on the sidelines. He's also the all-time leader in bowl wins with 24. Paterno is under contract through the 2011 season.
