Paterno Breaks Pelvis After Fall In Home
STATE COLLEGE (KDKA/AP) – Joe Paterno will not require surgery to repair a broken pelvis suffered during a recent fall at his home.
According to an Associated Press report, Paterno fell on Saturday and was admitted to the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Paterno is also undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for what his family has said is a treatable form
of lung cancer. Son Scott Paterno has said doctors are optimistic his father would make a full recovery from the illness.
This is the second time Paterno has fractured his pelvis. The first came when he was hit on the sidelines during a Penn State practice in August.
Paterno was fired in November amid a child sex abuse scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
Sandusky was arrested earlier this week on additional charges, but posted $250,000 bail after spending a night in jail.
Court records Thursday morning show Sandusky posted bail using $200,000 in real estate holdings and a $50,000 certified check provided by his wife.
Under the terms of his release, the former coach will be under house arrest and subject to electronic monitoring.
Sandusky has already been indicted on 40 counts of molesting eight boys over 15 years; but he has denied the charges.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 13.
