Pat Narduzzi: Our Defense Wants To Be Even Better
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pitt football head coach Pat Narduzzi joined "The Fan Morning Show" Monday morning to talk about his team after they pulled off an impressive win at Virginia Tech to open ACC play.
Narduzzi was very pleased with Pitt's effort - especially when it came to the players on the defensive side of the ball.
Pitt's defense recorded seven sacks and held VT to only 9 rushing yards, 100 total yards of total offense and 13 points. That's something Narduzzi and his staff can hang their hat on as they continue the grind of the ACC schedule.
"Our kids have really just bought in," Narduzzi said. "We've got unbelievable character kids."
Narduzzi said that it all starts with a strong coaching staff that builds a strong bond with their players.
"When you have great people as coaches and you treat the kids right, and you've got a clue what you're doing coaching-wise, you can do great things," Narduzzi said. "Our kids really have just bought in to what we're doing defensively, and [defensive coordinator Josh Conklin] has done a great job leading them and putting them in a position to make plays. I think that's what it comes down to."
Of course though, it was ultimately the players that got the job done for Pitt and made things happen on Saturday. Narduzzi is proud of them not only for doing a great job, but also for how they've stayed hungry in the days since.
"Our kids listen," Narduzzi said. "They're very coachable. Are we perfect? By no means. We dissected that tape last night - and our kids felt great on the bus, right on the airplane last Saturday evening - but last night, they didn't feel as good, because they see all the little things that we could even be better at. So, they say the sky's the limit, and we will keep getting better."
