Pat Narduzzi: 'No Rivalry' With Penn State Until We Play Again
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Since Pat Narduzzi assembled his staff, there has been much fanfare on Twitter from them as they hit the recruiting trail and the celebration of their recruits has drawn the ire of some Penn State coaches.
Narduzzi joined the Starkey and Mueller Show with Joe Starkey and Rob Rossi filling in to talk about this and how his first days as the Pitt head coach have been going.
Narduzzi said it hasn't been their plans to aggressively go after the Penn State staff.
"It's not guys," Narduzzi said. "I think it's more of a pride in the University of Pittsburgh and it has nothing to do with them. I didn't know they were looking at our tweets, you know? I'm not looking at their tweets, so I have no idea why they're looking at ours."
Narduzzi went on to tell us when he thinks the rivalry between Pitt and Penn State will really pick up.
"A rivalry doesn't start until you start playing it and for my knowledge, we haven't played them for a long time here. Until you play them, that's when a rivalry begins. So there's no rivalry right now."
Narduzzi also talked about what type of program they're trying to create at Pitt and how he and his coaches are selling that to recruits.
"We're just trying to go out and be us," Narduzzi said. "We got a classy program, we're going to do things the right way. All we're doing is trying to reach out to the youth out there and let them know who we are as people. Let them know who we are as coaches and let them know that we're enthusiastic about this university and we want to bring it back to great heights."
