Panther Hollow: Sunseri Optimistic About Offense
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Despite a 31-17 upset at the hands of Youngstown State in last Saturday's season opener, senior quarterback Tino Sunseri sees positives on which Pitt's offense can build entering Thursday's Big East lid-lifter in Cincinnati.
Sunseri, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown without an interception or sack, felt like he and his receivers were generally on the same page against YSU, and should be fine against UC as long as they protect the ball.
"We were moving the ball. I liked how we were able to get to certain route depths, and we looked pretty clean running our routes," he told the media after Monday afternoon's practice on the South Side. "We just want to make sure the plays that we can handle on the perimeter are connecting. We obviously felt like there were two or three of those we should've connected on...so whether it's me or the receivers going over the footwork, we need to make sure we're tying all the loose ends."
The third-year starter also discussed whether or not he felt the running game struggled in the opener, what he looks for defensively from Cincinnati, and what it means to start conference play this early.
