'Huge, Pent Up Demand': Pa. Liquor Stores Expand Curbside Delivery, Increase Number Of Stores Available For Service
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are now hundreds more locations across Pennsylvania where people can order and pick up wine or liquor.
Curbside service for Fine Wines & Good Spirits stores has never been done before and the demand is high. But even with more stores offering the service, people may still have to wait to get what they want.
For many, it was frustrating last week making several calls and not getting through to place their orders. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board recognized this and that's why they made some changes.
"There is a huge, pent up demand for these products, " said PLCB spokesman Shawn Kelly.
The challenge is meeting that demand.
"We're doing the best we can with a brand new process in extraordinary times," said Kelly.
At the Fine Wine & Good Spirits store in McIntyre Square in Ross Township, customers were either driving up or walking up to grab their orders.
Workers say they prefer people to park along the curb in their vehicle. Although there are guidelines in place, Kelly says stores can do what's best to speed up the process.
"I've seen in some places curbside delivery taking about 10 seconds from when a customer rolls up and shows an ID to the items being placed in the back of the vehicle," said Kelly.
With an additional 390 stores across the state now offering the service, the board has expanded their hours to take additional orders by phone. It's something, Kelly says, customers will need to remain patient for.
Across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:
- 565 locations available for curbside pickup
- Service is offered on a First-Call, First-Served Basis
- The expanded program goes into effect starting at 9a.m.
- 50 to 100 Orders will be fulfilled per Day, per Store
- Pickup will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday
"People want to get access as soon as they can, we get that. People should be aware that they will continue to get busy signals for awhile," said Kelly.
As for the stores, like the one in McIntyre Square, they will remain closed to foot traffic until restrictions are lifted.
