Pa. Senate Candidate McGinty Making Final Push Before Election Day
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Katie McGinty says she wants to be elected to the Pennsylvania Senate so she can fight for "hard-working families and the middle class."
She also says Sen. Pat Toomey's doesn't have their interests in mind.
McGinty tells the "KDKA Morning News" she wants to be the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania so she can give citizens, "Half a chance...I want to help those families, our good businesses here and get back in the game. Growing and hiring and giving people good wages they can raise their families on."
One of the main criticisms of the Senate campaign is how negative the ads on radio and television have been. McGinty says there is a difference between her ads and Toomey's.
McGinty says the attacks against her have been rated false or misleading by independent fact checkers and that the attack ads against her have been character assassination. However, the ads attacking Toomey are on the issues and not him personally.
"I will not say that our ads have been wishy-washy, they've not been, but they've been on the issues. They've been forceful because people can't stand to keep getting the short end of the stick," says McGinty.
If elected, along with Hillary Clinton, McGinty says she won't be a rubber stamp for Clinton in the Senate, but does stand with her on many issues.
"In terms of fighting for the middle class and working families, I think that's an urgent priority in this country and you bet that's what I'm going to do and that's why I do stand with Secretary Clinton, because that's where her priorities are, but anybody who knows me knows that I don't carry anybody's water," says McGinty.
McGinty says she is an environmentalist, but believes natural gas is an important industry for Pennsylvania's future.
