Pa. Republicans Nominate Vulakovich For Special Election
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The match-up is now set for the special election to fill the seat formerly held by convicted, former State Sen. Jane Orie.
Republican leaders on Saturday nominated current State Rep. Randy Vulakovich.
He beat out seven other candidates, including former Congresswoman Melissa Hart.
Vulakovich appeared surprised, but pleased to be nominated.
"Coming in rather late, I just didn't know if I had the momentum going; you know, to come in so very late at this thing," he said. "So, it all worked out, and I'm happy about it now, and looking forward to the race coming up."
Last weekend, Democrats nominated health care consultant Dr. Sharon Brown to run for the seat in the North Hills.
Dr. Brown is an epidemiologist from Wexford. She lost her challenge to State Rep. Mike Turzai in 2010.
The special election will be held on August 7.
