3 Injured After Overbrook Police Chase Ends In Crash
OVERBROOK (KDKA) – A police chase ended with a three-car crash in Overbrook Tuesday morning.
The chase apparently began in Brentwood, when a van appeared to be going too fast in a school zone around 8 a.m.
The crash happened in front of Frank and Shirley's restaurant along Route 51.
Three people were injured and were taken to local hospitals, according to a city police lieutenant. One of them was in critical condition.
City police say they were only called to investigate the crash and that no city cars were involved in the chase.
But, there was apparently a foot chase right after the crash, according to a witness.
"I was standing by the window and this beige car hit this car and that silver one hit in, and then, a fella ran out around the building and up the hill and then, we found out they were being chased all back here in the back streets," a woman said.
Brentwood Police Chief Adam Zeppuhar confirmed that the man who ran was apprehended but says charges are pending. The chief has yet to provide details about how and why the chase began.
Pittsburgh Police say they were involved in the chase but are only investigating the crash because the crash happened within city limits.
Pittsburgh Police Lt. Ed Cunningham said, "We were told that it was a three vehicle collision involving injuries....there were three people transported to the hospital with various levels of injuries."
"We were told on the radio that Brentwood was involved in the pursuit but none of our units were involved in the pursuit at all," Cunningham said.
"There was one person who was listed as critical at the scene," he said. "What that persons condition is not I don't know."
Brentwood Police may provide more details Wednesday.
