2 Killed, 1 Injured In Late-Night Homestead Shooting
HOMESTEAD, Pa. (KDKA) -- An investigation is underway after two people were killed and another was injured in a shooting in Homestead.
According to Allegheny County Police, a Homestead Police officer heard gunshots along East 16th Avenue just before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
"He discovered a vehicle wrecked into another vehicle. Inside of it was an adult male, an adult female and a juvenile male," Allegheny County Police Lt. Venerando Costa said.
Julie Coyne said her boyfriend also heard the gunshots, about a dozen of them, right outside his window.
"It happened right across the street. He saw it from the window," Coyne said.
All three victims went to the hospital in critical condition. Jason Chavis, 25, later died at UPMC Presbyterian. A couple of days later, 18-year-old Amari Mitchell also died.
The neighborhood is still shaken up.
"I don't know what we're going to do. I know my boyfriend has been wanting to leave. I think this is just going to push that effort even more. I don't see us staying here anytime longer," Coyne said.
On Friday, shattered glass still covered the cold pavement, a reminder of the overnight tragedy.
Coyne and other neighbors told KDKA that they've never had something like this happen in their yards, and it now has them thinking about their safety.
"I'm pretty aware of my surroundings. I've been on my own now for a couple of years now. We have a couple of security measures in the house," Coyne said.
KDKA-TV is still working to learn how the victims are connected. No arrests have been made.
If you know anything about the shooting, you're asked to call the county police.
