Ohlendorf, Pirates Have First Arbitration Hearing
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - With pitchers and catchers reporting to Bradenton, Fla. on Monday for their first workout, the Pirates and Ross Ohlendorf had their first salary arbitration hearing.
Last year, Ohlendorf was paid $439,000 and is now seeking a raise to $2,025,000. The Pirates are offering $1.4 million.
Ohlendorf enters his fourth season with the Pirates. Last year the 28 year-old right-hander went 1-11 with a 4.07 ERA in 21 starts. He pitched in 108 1/3 innings, allowing 54 runs, 12 home runs, 44 walks and struck out 79.
In 2009 Ohlendorf went 11-10 with a 3.92 ERA for the Pirates.
A decision by the arbitrators is expected Wednesday. Since arbitration began in 1974, owners have and advantage of 285-210 in those hearings.
The first full-squad workout for the Pirates is Saturday, February 19th and the first Spring Training game against a major league team is Sunday, February 27th against the Tampa Bay Rays.
