Ohio State Plans Response To NCAA
COLUMBUS, Ohio (KDKA/AP) - Ohio State plans to submit its response to the NCAA today regarding a scandal that started with football players selling memorabilia or trading them for tattoos and led to coach Jim Tressel's resignation and quarterback Terrelle Pryor's departure.
Pryor announced through his attorney on June 7 that he would not return to Ohio State for his senior season. Rather, the Jeannette native declared he will enter the NFL's supplemental draft.
Tressel's 10-year tenure as head coach of the Buckeyes ended May 31 with his resignation. The 58-year old took the Buckeyes to its first national title in 34 years, eight Bowl Championships Series games and had a 106-22-0 record at Ohio State. Tressel spent 15 years at Youngstown State before Ohio State, where he won four Division I-AA national championships and compiled a 135-57-2 record.
The university is responding to several questions listed in the NCAA's notice of allegations received by Ohio State in April.
Each incriminating point made by the NCAA will be addressed by Ohio State, which has said it will make its response public Monday after blacking out the names of current student-athletes.
Athletic Director Gene Smith said Thursday that his department had worked hard to meet the deadline and was on schedule.
Four players will miss the first five games of the season as a result of the scandal.
