Officials To Meet Over East End Flooding
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening to discuss the flooding concerns in the East End.
City Councilman Bill Peduto has invited state and county officials to attend the meeting along with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.
Flooding has been a concern for residents in the area for some time. However, the most recent flash flood left four people dead on Washington Boulevard in Highland Park last month.
Alcosan sat down with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority recently. They looked at their maps, drawings and charts and determined their systems were what they were supposed to be at the time of the flood.
Alcosan and the PWSA are saying it was a situation with too much rain, too fast and the system wasn't capable of handling it. They are calling it a 100-year storm.
The original purpose of Tuesday's meeting was to address past flooding in the East End, but the fatal flood on Washington Boulevard will take center stage.
The meeting will be held at the Winchester Thurston School at 6 p.m. in Shadyside.
