Pirates Catcher, Family Victims Of Road Rage Incident
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Scott Township man is now facing charges after authorities say he was involved in an alleged road rage incident with the family of an injured Pittsburgh Pirate.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday at the BP station on Banksville Road.
"He took a swing at the lady. He didn't hit her, but he took a swing at her," said Chuck Crooks, a witness to the incident.
According to investigators, the woman behind the wheel was Carla Snyder, the wife of Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Chris Snyder.
"The lady tried to pull out that way. Well, the guy got on his scooter and he went out that side, came around, back up Banksville, pulled right in front of her truck, threw his scooter on the ground right in front of her," said Crooks. "He just dropped it."
Snyder told police she missed her turn and quickly pulled into the gas station lot. That's when eyewitnesses say 44-year-old Subhash Modhwadia went into a rage, yelling: "You almost hit me."
"He ran over to her and ripped the mirror off the car and started punching the car and kicking the car," said Crooks.
While all of it was going on, Snyder sat in the vehicle with the couple's two small children in the back seat. He was unable to do anything due to recent back surgery.
Officials say a man coming out of the gas station and an off-duty Pittsburgh police officer who just happened to be driving by tried to tackle the man, but not before he bit one of them and threw his shoes at them.
"This guy wasn't going down for anything. He just, he was going crazy," said Crooks. "Well, when the police came, he took his shoe off again and threw it and hit the cop with his shoe."
The Snyders were not hurt during the incident.
Modhwadia was arrested and taken to Allegheny County Jail. He is facing a number of charges including aggravated assault and driving with an invalid license.
He has also been ordered to undergo a behavioral evaluation
Modhwadia is being held on $25,000 bail.
