Suspect Arrested In Overnight Burglary Attempt At Local U-Haul
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh police say they have a suspect in custody following a burglary attempt at a U-Haul business in Larimer overnight.
When the burglar alarm at the Washington Boulevard U-Haul sent an alert to police, they were able to get to the business in minutes. It happened around 2:45 a.m.
With broken glass and debris on the ground, Pittsburgh police officers surrounded the building and sent in their K9 officer.
Police say 57-year-old Fred Nesbit of Homewood was found inside crouching behind the counter.
Police tell KDKA that the K9 officer latched onto Nesbit until police got inside.
According to police, Nesbit is accused of trying to break into the cash register. He was also found with tools that police say could have helped him in that effort.
Police officials at the Zone 5 station did not want to comment on camera, but said that the officers did a tremendous job capturing Nesbit and following protocols so that no one was injured.
Police also say that Nesbit had on thick clothing and was not badly injured by the dog bite.
Among other charges Nesbit is facing, police say they found he was also in possession of drug paraphernalia.
