Good Samaritans Take Down Bank Robber In Portersville

PORTERSVILLE (KDKA) -- A handful of Good Samaritans tackled an armed bank robber.

The robbery happened at the First National Bank in Portersville on Perry Highway. The alleged robber had a gun, mask and an armload of cash.

Four men who saw what happened decided to take action.

"When my co-worker pulled up, that froze him and then I was able to just take him down and then that pretty much ended it," said one of the men who did not want to be identified. "He was pretty much spent at that point."

One of the civilians was on foot. His two co-workers were in a car. Postmaster Alan Snyder also pursued him in his Smart car.

The four men realized the suspect had a gun in his pocket. They disarmed him and sat on top of him until police arrived.

"It's pretty unusual in this day and age people would step up and become involved like that," State Police Sgt. Steven Russo said. "So, it helped us out greatly."

One of the men had a license to carry a firearm and pulled out his weapon on the suspect.

The bank robbery suspect is now being questioned by State police in Butler.
