Officials Finish Inventory Of Items Lost In Flight 93 Memorial Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – National Park officials say they've completed their inventory check after a fire swept through the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville.
After the fire earlier this month, officials say they lost 334 photos and 25 items from the passengers and crew of Flight 93.
Another 113 small items donated by friends and family of the victims were also lost.
Officials say some of these items include ID cards from the victims, a boarding pass for Flight 93 and a parking receipt.
Boxes of tribute items from visitors and items from the investigation were also lost in the fire.
Although they say digital reproductions of the photos were recovered.
Some of the objects were being prepared for an exhibit in the new visitor center.
Officials had also said previously that an American flag flying over the capitol on Sept. 11 was lost in the fire as well.
The Oct. 3 fire destroyed three buildings at the memorial.
Investigators say it's still unclear what caused it – and they might never know. However, arson and foul play have been ruled out.
