Officer Shot In Homewood Incident In ICU, In Good Spirits
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police say the incident in which a suspect was shot by police and two officers were injured will undergo review by the critical incident review board.
Thursday morning, the driver of a speeding car led police on a chase, crashed and got into a physical altercation with officers – eventually opening fire.
During the struggle two officers were injured and shocked by a Taser – the most critically of which was Officer Morgan Jenkins.
At a press conference Friday afternoon, police said Jenkins is in the Intensive Care Unit and in good spirits.
Jenkins was shot by a single bullet that pierced his bicep, continued through his lung and stopped near his spine.
Jenkins also opened fire on suspect James Robert Hill, who is in serious, but stable condition at UPMC. He was shot five times in the chest, hip, leg, wrist and fingers. He faces two aggravated assault charges and one for fleeing.
Authorities say Hill fired back at police after he was hit.
Officer Michelle Auge also shot at Hill during the altercation. She was injured during the scuffle, but not as the result of a gunshot.
Firearms Instructional Officer John Lubawski said officials are still evaluating the reliability and sustainability of city-issued ammunition.
