Off-Duty Officer Killed In Motorcycle Crash Laid To Rest

EVANS CITY (KDKA) - An off-duty police officer who was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Liberty Bridge was laid to rest Wednesday.

Officer Kristine Bartman was on her way home from the Justin Bieber concert last week when she was killed.

"She was violently rear-ended by another driver which forced her into the back of another vehicle," her husband, Zachary, said. "She was senselessly taken from us by someone that was not paying attention."

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Evans City to pay their final respects to Officer Bartman. A motorcycle hearse led the funeral procession.

Representatives from every police department in the region followed behind as the hearse retraced Officer Bartman's daily patrol route.

"We're honoring her just the way that she deserves to be."

Outside of being a dedicated officer, she was remembered as an avid fitness enthusiast who loved animals and had a love for life.

Officer Many Mudrick, of Adams Township Police, says Officer Bartman had a wonderful spirit.

"Love of her husband, love of her family, love of her job and love of her friends," said Officer Mudrick.

Friends and colleagues say she was one of a kind.

"Very well-respected by her peers and by neighboring departments and was a phenomenal police officer," Chief Joseph McCombs said.

Her funeral will be held at the Boylan Funeral Home in Renfrew.

At the cemetery, the mournful notes of a bagpipe played as the pallbearers carried her casket to its final resting place. There was a 21 Gun Salute and then Officer Bartman's final roll call

Officer Bartman worked for the Evans City/Seven Fields Regional Police Department.
