University Of Pittsburgh Police And Pittsburgh Police Searching For Attempted Burglary Suspect
OAKLAND (KDKA) -- Both the University of Pittsburgh Police and Pittsburgh Police are searching for a suspect in an attempted burglary case.
"I lived here last year and nothing like this ever happened. It's kind of a shocker for that to happen, especially two times in one night," University of Pittsburgh junior Aaron Meyer said.
According to the University of Pittsburgh, just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday evening, an unknown person attempted to enter an off-campus house in 300 block of Melwood Avenue through a bedroom window but was unsuccessful.
The victim said that while he was sleeping, the person tried to open the window, was unable to gain entry, then fled through the backyard.
A couple hours later, just before 1:30 a.m., a suspect entered a home in the same block of Melwood Avenue through a back window and then fled.
Meyer's roommate saw police rush back to the neighborhood.
"Looked out the window and there were like eight different cop cars, he said. Like, lined up along the street," Meyer told KDKA.
In this case, officers said the woman came home to find her bedroom door shut, which she said was unusual. She left and called police. When they came, they found the window was opened and her items had been moved. The victims said she always keeps her windows closed and locked.
Pitt junior Joshua House was not surprised to hear the news. He's had his shoes swiped off his front porch, and his roommate almost had his bike stolen.
"He comes out and there is a guy drinking a beer trying to get his bike," House said with a laugh. "And he was like 'excuse me sir' and he just told him to leave."
Pitt Police were back in the area today to put flyers on doors to remind everyone to keep their doors and windows locked.
"We always keep them locked, but if someone is downstairs we'll keep it unlocked. Then when we go up to sleep we make sure to turn off the lights and lock the doors," said House.
No injuries were reported and nothing was taken from either home.
