Northeast Digging Out After Big Snowstorm
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS) -- People from New York to New England are digging out after a nor'easter dropped more than three-feet of snow in some areas.
Several states have lifted travel bans and airports are reopening. But, it's taken a lot of work.
"A lot of cleanup, we've got a snow blower," said Loretta Cox, a resident of Massachusetts. "My husband is somewhere in the neighborhood cleaning other people's houses and we are finishing up here."
Highways turned into parking lots overnight. Emergency crews moved in to rescue dozens of people who were forced to spend the night in their cars on New York's Long Island, which was one of the hardest hit places.
"Put on the three layers of clothing I brought, threw some blankets over me, and went to sleep," said one man who got stuck on the road.
In Connecticut, workers tried to keep the sidewalks outside their businesses clear.
"Plows keep blocking you in and you gotta keep shoveling it out," said one man in Hartford.
Connecticut's governor asked people to stay off the roads Saturday so plows can clear the streets.
But many people would have trouble just getting to their cars. In Hartford, vehicles were buried under the massive amounts of snow.
It's a similar scene in Massachusetts. Streets in Worcester were filled with people digging out their cars.
"This is a lot of snow," said one woman. "I miss my truck and an indoor garage."

In Boston, some residents chose to run or walk before the governor lifted a ban on driving.
And, along the Massachusetts coast some people had to leave their homes because of flooding.
Flooding is also a problem in low lying areas along the Maine coastline.
Meanwhile, power crews are working to get electricity back to about 650,000 customers while others are just enjoying the big blast of winter.
