North Side Shooting Victim's Family Calling For Suspect To Come Forward
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A family is devastated after a father of four was shot and killed overnight just after leaving a bar on Pittsburgh's North Side.
The victim's grieving mother is calling for the suspect to come forward.
"Please turn yourself in," she said. "Please, because, you know, the streets be talking. You live in Pittsburgh. You know everybody around here be talking, so please turn yourself in."
Fabian Nixon, 40, was shot and killed in his car in the 3100-block of McClure Avenue.
Police say Nixon was sitting in his car after leaving Mr. Jack's Neighborhood bar around closing time.
Minutes later, someone who investigators believe had been waiting for Nixon walked through the vacant lot and fired several shots into his car.
"Sitting in his car, minding his own business, he didn't bother nobody," said Kena Powe, the Nixon's cousin. "He didn't bother nobody. There's not one bad thing nobody can say about him."
The murder is a major blow to a family that has been untouched by violence in the streets.
"It's just so devastating to my family," said Powe. "We've been so blessed that we haven't had to deal with tragedy like this. We see it on the news everyday, but it never hits our family, like we've been truly covered by God."
The former college basketball player and father of four is now gone, and his family wants to know why.
"Why would someone take his life, for what reason? What reason did you have? You took him away from his kids, his mother, his father, his sister, his cousins," Powe added.
Detectives are talking to possible witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from the bar and a nearby business.
