Woman Rescued After Car Goes Over Hillside, Into Creek In Westmoreland Co.
NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. (KDKA) - A woman was rescued from an SUV that went over a hillside and into a creek in Westmoreland County.
Dispatchers say police and medics are heading to North Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County for a car that went into a creek at Barns Lake Road and Norwin Avenue.
The accident was reported just after 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.
"We were working in the parking lot, and we heard a loud crashing noise," witness Gordon Spirer said. "We immediately ran to the crash site."
Spirer and Justin Baird went to help the woman after her car fell about 10 to 15 feet off the road and into the nearby creek. They tried to provide help until first responders arrived.
"Just helping out another human being," Spirer said.
According to police, the woman, who is in her 30s, was able to walk away from the crash with minor injuries. She was taken to Forbes Hospital.
"The way the car looked, I'm surprised she just had minor injuries," witness Charma Nicklow said.
Investigators said the driver hit the guardrail and concrete abutments on her way into the water.
"It's frightening to see something like that," Nicklow said. "It really is."
The driver told officers she was coming home from work. Police said she was not driving under the influence, and they are not sure yet what caused her to crash.
