No One Elected Into Baseball Hall Of Fame
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For the first time since 1996, no one was elected into Baseball's Hall of Fame.
Houston Astro Craig Biggio was the closest at 39 votes shy.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist and 93-7 The Fan host Ron Cook voted for Biggio, but not for Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens or Sammy Sosa.
"I'm convinced they used performance enhancing drugs and cheated the game," Cook said. "I'm not saying they should be thrown out of the game or their records expunged, but I don't have to give them the highest honor in the game."
Seventy-five percent of the vote is needed to be inducted; Biggio received 68.2 percent, Jack Morris 67.7, Clemens with 37.6, Bonds received 36.2 percent and Sosa with 12.5 percent of the baseball writers' votes.
Even though he played in the same era, Cook said, "I'm not convinced Biggio was a steroids guy. I am absolutely convinced on Bonds and Clemens, Sosa, Palmeiro, McGwire, Alex Rodriguez. You name the list."
Cook told the Starkey and Miller show he wasn't sure if they would ever get in, saying, "forever is a long time. I seem to be in the majority right now, we'll see if it changes over the years."
