Weekend Shuttle & Parking Changes Begin On South Side
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Today is Saint Patrick's Day and even though the City of Pittsburgh held its celebration last weekend, it's expected to be a busy night on the South Side.
If you're planning on heading that way, you'll want to know about some significant changes that begin today.
A new free shuttle service will make its debut tonight. The Nite Rider Shuttle will bring people from the Second Avenue Parking Plaza downtown, across the 10th Street Bridge and east to 21st Street via Muriel, Wharton and East Carson streets.
It will make stops at the following locations:
- Bedford Square
- S. 18th @ Sidney St.
- S. 21st @ E. Carson St.
Each week, the service will run from 6 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday. It will then resume at 4 p.m. on Saturday and run through 4 a.m. on Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority is going to have about 700 free parking spaces at the pickup spot downtown. This is being done to help alleviate the parking issues on the South Side, where spots are always limited, especially on weekends.
If you do choose to park on the South Side, get ready to feed the meter. Enforcement hours are being extended on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to midnight.
It will cost $1.50 an hour, but it won't be enforced until April 14. Organizers are giving everyone a 28-day public education phase
The extra revenue will go toward providing more law enforcement on the South Side.
Just in time for Saint Patrick's Day, a free shuttle will start rolling on Pittsburgh's South Side.
