NHL Realignment Breakdown

PITTSBURGH (SportsRadio 93-7 The Fan) -- Post-Gazette, Empty Netters Hockey blogger Seth Rorabaugh joined the Fan Morning Show on Tuesday to talk about the proposed, and now accepted, realignment of the NHL Conferences.

We started off talking to Seth about last night's loss to the Bruins. Seth thinks that the Bruins advantage in defensive depth was apparent last night because of the absence of Penguins defensemen Kris Letang, and Zybnek Michalek. Tim Thomas played well last night, but he is aided by a pretty outstanding defensive corps.

We move on to talk about the realignment that will take place in the NHL in the near future. There will be four conferences total. Two will have seven teams, and two will have eight teams.

The Penguins will maintain the same teams in their conference that were in the Atlantic Division, but will add Carolina and Washington to make seven teams.
