NFLPA Considers Changes To Agents' Certification
NEW YORK (KDKA/AP) - The NFL Players Association is considering changes to the certification process for NFL agents after several of them were involved with recruiting scandals of NCAA players.
The union head, DeMaurice Smith, held a conference call with agents to discuss the change, as well as how agents should be disciplined for violating NCAA rules.
The review of the certification process came after agent Gary Wichard was suspended by the union for his role in a recruiting scandal at UNC.
Smith also spoke about the potential lockout next year by the NFL owners and how the decertification of the union would affect the agents.
Players voted to decertify the union earlier this year as the NFLPA tries to prevent a lockout. Decertification would give the union a chance to sue under antitrust laws if there is a lockout.
Without decertification, the union would have to wait six months to file a suit after the collective bargaining agreement expired.
