NFL Star Darrelle Revis Hoping To Inspire Kids At Youth Football Camp
ALIQUIPPA (KDKA) -- "You've got to fight that fight for yourself, to be successful."
NFL cornerback Darrelle Revis, of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, addressed 130 boys and girls on the Aliquippa High School football field, where he was a star player.
He then became an All-American at Pitt.
Sponsored by his Revis Island Foundation, his two-day camp teaches kids more than football drills.
"They're going to be future doctors, future nurses, future lawyers," Revis says. "Everybody doesn't have to play football. That's not everybody's calling. Everybody's got something else, and that's how you've got to tell these kids. You have to have that discipline and focus to succeed in anything."
Years after he left home, his mother, Diana Askew, still has his back.
She helped her son avoid the fate of some of his Aliquippa teammates, who died far too young.
"He goes back and thinks about what those guys were doing then," she says. "And he's like, 'Wow, we have so much potential, we don't realize it at a young age. And we need to make the changes now.'"
At the Revis Skills and Drills Camp, those changes come one kid at a time.
