NFL Elects To Close Roof For Super Bowl XLV
ARLINGTON, Texas (KDKA/AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers played Sunday's AFC Championship Game in negative degree wind chill. The Green Bay Packers call the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field home. However, the NFL has decided to make the Super Bowl a warm weather event.
On Monday, the NFL decided to close the retractable roof at Cowboys Stadium for Super Bowl XLV.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the decision was made well in advance of the Super Bowl so the league could have a "singular focus" on logistics.
According to Accuweather.com, the forecast for Super Bowl Sunday is calling for highs in low 50s with a low of about 40 degrees. However, there is a risk for freezing temperatures that day.
The Cowboys opened the roof when they had 105,121 for the first regular season game at their new stadium in 2009. Attendance could surpass 100,000 for the Super Bowl. Only about 93,000 will be inside the stadium with the rest standing outside watching on big screen televisions.
