NFL Analyst James Lofton: Steelers Offense Still Misses Hines Ward
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pro Football Hall of Famer James Lofton will be on the call for Sunday night's matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears, and he previews the game with Troy Clardy on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.
As one of the greatest receivers in the history of the game, Lofton has a surprising assessment of what seems to be missing from the Steelers offense.
"This offense was its most dynamic when Hines Ward was still playing," Lofton says. "Even Hines in his later years, when you had Mike [Wallace] on the outside and you had Antonio Brown or Emmanuel Sanders, then in the slot you had Hines Ward and at tight end, you had Heath Miller. You had people who occupied the center of the field who were dangerous and tough and physical. You need different guys, and what I see now is all the same guy. They're all nice route-runners, but there is nobody to get in there and do the dirty work."
Lofton also offers up his take on the mental approach the Steelers must take against the Bears.
"You've got one week, and that's it," he says. "You've got this next ballgame. You've got to put all your energy and all your time into it to try to snatch, steal, claw, get a victory. That's all you're interested in. For the Steelers to be in an 0-3 hole, somewhere that they've never been in the Mike Tomlin era, I don't know where they would go from there."
